Fighting Stigma

Unfortunately in many countries even today, many people have a stigma towards mental illness. Many people are worried that mental illness is contagious. This stigma prevents recovery and forces people to hide their mental illness. Many people are faking good mental health to keep their jobs, relationships, and business clients, thus keeping their employers, partners, friends and customers in the fake dream that might eventually collapse. Problems then arise with some people having manic or psychotic episodes after many years of suppressing and in denial of their mental illness thus not receiving appropriate treatment and support.

Early intervention might prevent growth and development of some mental illnesses or mental health disorders. However, once an individual enters a mental health system, in certain countries they might stay in the mental health system for most of their life or rest of their life, depending on the diagnosis.

This is why recovery is so important for mental health disorders that are not life long.
